SO, today for Blogmas day 10, I’m going off the workout theme and sharing some tips for working out in the cold! Now, you don’t HAVE to be outside in the cold to workout but, our home gym is mostly outside or in the garage so it deff gets cold! Also, running and walking outside is obviously going to be a bit cooler this time of year!
- Warm up! It’s always a good idea to warm up before a workout, especially when it’s cold out! Warming up will increase your blood flow and body temperature up to help decrease risk of injury! Ways to warm up: Jumps jacks, jump rope, squat jumps, dynamic stretching.
- Dress warm and dry! This meaning wear clothing that is breathable so you don’t over sweat causing you to have moisture which will make you wet and cold! So skip the cotton fabric and choose something moisture wicking.
- Layers! Again skip over your cotton materials. Start with a thin base layer something wool will be breathable and warm, then a middle layer which can be something like a fleece pull over and then if its super cold a shell layer that blocks wind and snow and insulates heat.
- Hydrate! Stay hydrated friends! Being well hydrated helps regulate body temperature!
- Cover up! Don’t forget about your hands and ears! Wear water proof gloves to protect them from the elements and a cover for your ears! No one wants cold dry hands and frozen ears!
- Protect your skin! Often in the winter, when it snows there seems to be more wind which can chap those cheeks! Apply some moisturizer to your face before heading out and don’t forget a layer of chap stick! You don’t want to kiss your honey under the mistletoe with crusty lips! LOL.
